Escape Into Film - 2017's Most Anticipated Films

Sometimes, you don't need to hop on a plane to have a little relaxing break from reality. A good film can take you on a two hour journey that leaves you feeling like you experienced an entirely different place or time. Here are some of the films that I am looking forward, in 2017, for a bit of escapism.

Quick Note: I enjoy action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, zombie, and animated films, so this list won't contain much, if any, horror or romance offerings.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 - May 5, 2017

Guardians of the Galaxy is a fun little superhero movie that takes place in outer space. It has likable characters, a fun retro soundtrack and is sure to be an enjoyable cinematic ride.

Alien: Covenant - May 19

Alien: Covenant's immediate predecessor was kind of 'eh." I had high hopes for Prometheus, but it never really came together as a cohesive and compelling film. However, as a fan of the Alien franchise, I am still excited to see what Covenant has up its sleeves.

Wonder Woman - June 2, 2017

I like Marvel films, but many of DC's superhero movies have been kind of a buzzkill for me. The Dark Knight trilogy was dramatic and serious in tone, but the films were very good and the grittiness worked. However, their other films have not appealed to me. Marvel understands that many viewers, like myself, want their superhero films to be lighthearted and fun, not dark and moody, like DC's most recent Batman and Superman flicks.

I'm hoping that Wonder Woman breaks DC's trend of producing overly serious, mood crushing films. The previews look appealing, so fingers crossed.

The Mummy - June 9, 2017

I was cautiously excited when I heard about the new "Mummy" sequel. When "The Mummy" trailer finally dropped, I will admit, I was surprised - it was NOT what I was expecting. The modern-day sequel is far removed from the original franchise, but after my initial reservations subsided, I was ready to give this new Mummy film a go - Tom Cruise and all. If anything, it looks like a silly, but enjoyable movie.

Spiderman: Homecoming - July 7, 2017

It's the start of a new Spiderman saga. The new web-slinger seems likable enough after his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, and I'm looking forward to the reboot.

Girl's Trip - July 21, 2017

It's a chick-flick comedy. It looks predictable but funny.

The Hitman's Bodyguard - August 18

Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds being Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds. Take my money....

Kingsman: The Golden Circle - September 29, 2017

I loved the original Kingsman. It was violent and fast paced, but super entertaining. I'm hoping that its sequel will be as enjoyable.

Bladerunner 2049 - October 6, 2017

Why not.....lol

Cloverfield Movie - October 27, 2017

There isn't any information available for this film as yet, but if its anything like the first movie, or the loosely connected, 10 Cloverfield Lane, I will be there for it!

Thor: Ragnarok - November 3, 2017

Just watch the trailer. I'm here for everything about this Thor sequel, from the soundtrack to the Thor versus Hulk battle scene.

Justice League - November 17, 2017

As with Wonder Woman, the Justice League film can work IF (BIG IF) DC doesn't try to make it super dramatic. I shall wait and see.....But, I'll still be in the theaters come November 17.

Jumanji - December 20, 2017

I'm only here for nostalgia's sake. Let's hope they do this film justice.

Pitch Perfect 3 - December 22, 2017

I watched the first Pitch Perfect film on a flight, and didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The first two films were funny and lighthearted, and I'm eager to see what the Barden Bellas are up to.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

It Comes At Night - June 9

I hate horrors, but the "It Comes At Night" trailer looks really good. I was scared and intrigued just watching it. I'll probably skip this film, simply so I can sleep at night, but feel free to check it out.
